Summer is here!!

“One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.” – Henry Miller

Memorial Day Weekend often marks the time when most people begin to travel for the summer! Whether you have big plans to go out of town or you’re staying local for the holiday, I’m sure you can find something fun and exciting to do. When I want to know what is going on, I just check out the “My Explore” app on my iPhone…it’s awesome!

Jousting at the Scarborough Renaissance Festival

Jousting at the Scarborough Renaissance Festival

If you’re in the DFW area (like me) or you happen to be headed this way, there are plenty of events scheduled for this weekend! For example, the Scarborough Renaissance Festival is a 16th Century themed festival that features 10 entertainment stages, hundreds of performers, music and artisan demonstrations, falconry, and even full combat jousting! I have never been to this festival but I have always wanted to go! However, if it doesn’t seem like it is quite your “thing” then don’t forget, you can find many more activities listed in the “Events” section in the “My Explore” app. Plus, the Dallas area is always full of adventure!

It’s Not Just a Fishing Pier, It’s an Adventure!

Cocoa Beach Pier in Florida

If you’re in the mood for something a little more tropical, but your budget is keeping you in the United States, then head to Orlando! Florida is a great spot to take a summer vacation (I know from experience) and there are always a lot of things to do. The “My Explore” app provides really neat tours, so you can guide yourself around from the palm of your hand! One of the tours that I really want to try out the next time that I’m in Florida, is the “Rockets and Beaches” tour of Cocoa Beach Pier. This historical landmark on the Space Coast is home to 4 bars, 5 restaurants, free live musical entertainment, gift shops, an 800 foot long fishing pier, and it was established in 1962. By the way, if you already live in Orlando and you have never heard of this place…you should go check it out because it sounds like a lot of fun!

A Must-See in D.C.

Sunset at Mount Vernon

Mount Vernon Mansion

Finally, if you want to honor the veterans who passed away while serving our country, then Washington, D.C. is the place for you! Memorial Day is a day of remembrance and you can honor these veterans and famous Americans by visiting some of the monuments that Washington, D.C. has to offer. For instance, Mount Vernon is featured in the “My Explore” app as one of the “Must-See” attractions. Also, It just so happens that Sunset at Mount Vernon is taking place this weekend from 6-9 each evening (Friday-Sunday). Take a wagon ride, tour the mansion, enjoy 18th-century music and dancing, and best of all…have some wine and dessert!
