Summer in the West Coast

Summer is here and that means the weather gets hotter and hotter! However, summer tends to be one of people’s favorite seasons! Summer Solstice will occur on June 21st, which marks the beginning of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. See how people in the West Coast will be celebrating this hot, but wonderful season!

Los Angeles Film Festival

The LA Film Fest started on June 13th and will last until June 23rd. The Los Angeles Film Festival is in its nineteenth year and it is “widely recognized as a world-class cinematic event, showcasing the best in new American and international cinema and providing the movie-loving public with access to some of the most critically acclaimed filmmakers, film industry professionals and emerging new talent by bringing them together in the heart of the entertainment capital of the world.”

At the festival, you can participate in a variety of activities, such as:

  • Diversity Speaks
  • Coffee Talks
  • Free Community Screenings

Seafair

Seafair is a summer festival in Seattle, Washington that includes a variety of small neighborhood events that lead up to major city-wide celebrations. Seafair began as ” a plan to celebrate Seattle’s centennial in 1951-52.  The festival was designed to attract tourists and stress marine events in keeping with Seattle’s boast as the “boating  capital of the world.” According to Seafair History, “Over the years, Seafair built pride among the community which still resonates today.” Some of the signature events at Seafair, are:

San Francisco Jazz Festival

The San Francisco Jazz Festival is “A 10-day bash celebrating the start of summer and the rich range of music played on stages around the center and the neighborhood.” The festival is put on by SFJAZZ, which was founded in 1983 and “presents the greatest names in jazz, Latin and other global music and nurtures the art of improvisation through its year-round concert, commissioning and education programs.”
