Seaside Fun

“Do you want to go to the seaside?
I’m not trying to say that everybody wants to go
But I fell in love on the seaside
On the seaside
In the seaside”
– The Kooks
Galveston, Texas is located about 50 miles away from Houston. People go there for multiple reasons, such as:
  • To fish
  • Relax at the beach
  • Shop along The Strand or the waterfront
  • Visit Moody Gardens, Schlitterbahn, or Pleasure Pier

and to do much, much more!

I LOVE going to Galveston. Check out some of the cool things that Galveston has to offer.

Where to Go

Pleasure Pier is one of the newer attractions in Galveston. “Featuring waterfront fun and entertainment like no other Gulf Coast destination, the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier features family-oriented attractions including rides, midway games, a wide selection of food venues and retail shop.”

Since it just opened in Summer 2012, I haven’t had a chance to go yet, but it seems like a lot of fun! One of the neat things about Pleasure Pier, is that it doesn’t just offer rides and amusement, but it offers those experiences in a different way! You can actually soar over the Gulf of Mexico while you’re on some of these rides!

See for yourself what it would be like to experience one of these rides!

Moody Gardens
is one of my favorite places in Galveston! When you plan your visit, here are a few things you can consider doing:

There are also seasonal events that go on. Check out the Calendar of Events for more information on things such as Dinos Alive and the Festival of Lights!

Moody Gardens had to make a few changes a couple of years back, due to a hurricane. See what enhancements they made to the Rainforest Pyramid!

Schlitterbahn
is a water-park that most everyone loves to visit!  At the Schlitterbahn in Galveston, you can “Surf the Boogie Bahn, blast up water coasters, float the longest tube chutes anywhere, splash in great kiddie pools, and sip a cold drink in a bubbling hot tub!”

In high school, I went there with my friends for Senior Skip Day (2009) and we had a blast! The only reason I personally haven’t been back, is because I’m clumsy and broke my foot while I was there! I know a ton of people who really enjoy water-parks though! If I wasn’t so scared of water-slides now (which sounds pathetic), I would definitely enjoy this place!  I recommend going if you want a nice family outing or somewhere to hang out with a big group of friends. It could even be a fun date!

Check out the Summer Attractions and get a glimpse of this indoor water-park!

What To Do

When you’re not in the mood to visit places like that, you can always relax at the beach, go fishing, or shop!

Check out some information and tips on how to best enjoy these activities!

  • Going to the Beach – According to “How to Choose a Beach in Galveston,” there are 32 miles of beaches that you can pick from. Choosing which beach is right for you really just depends on the mood that you’re in. You can go to the biggest beach, the most quiet, the best one for families, the beach with a romantic atmosphere, the most relaxing, etc. Each one has it’s own vibe! See a list of beaches here: Galveston Beach Parks.

  • Going Shopping – Shopping in Galveston is always a good time! Whether you’re on the seawall or in the historic part of downtown, it’s fun and you always come across cute clothes and interesting knickknacks. “Antique lovers, art aficionados and shoppers of all kinds will discover beautiful and interesting objects on display at Galveston Island’s myriad of shops. From the quaint shops of the Historic Downtown Strand District to the thoroughly modern retailers on Seawall Boulevard, shoppers will delight in the offerings ranging from fine to fun souvenirs.” Check out Galveston Shopping to see what kinds of stores might peak your interest!

  • Going Fishing – Your fishing adventure can now be made easier! How? By getting a Jet Kayak GT!! “The Jet Kayak GT offers the ultimate fishing experience to anglers of all types. Whether you’re running shark bait out from the beach, fishing across the shallowest flats inshore, or drifting deep reefs, the Jet Kayak GT helps you catch fish in any environment!” The Jet Kayak GT features a jet driven engine, dry storage compartment, and comfortable seat. This is fairly new, so be one of the first to realize how great it is! Check out their Facebook page, Jetkayak GT, and see their website (which is currently under construction) for more information!

I’m curious to find out what blog system you happen to be utilizing? I’m having some minor security issues with
my latest site and I would like to find something more safeguarded.
    Do you have any recommendations?
