Summer Escapes

“When all else fails, take a vacation.” – Betty Williams

July is often a prime month to take a summer vacation! As the weekend gets closer, people are either already headed to their destination or thinking of where to go! Although not everyone gets a full “summer” because of work, weekend getaways can still be relaxing and fun and you should take advantage of them!

Great times in Granbury

Since I’m located in Dallas, Texas, I had the opportunity to take a nice scenic drive (just an hour and a half) to Granbury, Texas – which was voted the #2 Best Summer Weekend Escape!

“Granbury is a door to yesterday with its Victorian architecture and charming country spirit that celebrates the culturally diverse.”

Granbury Visitor Center

I’m originally from a small town, so I immediately LOVED the vibe I got while visiting Granbury. I took the time to stop in the Visitors Center (which I don’t always do) and was graciously greeted by a sweet woman who worked there. She provided my road trip buddy, Elizabeth, and I with directions, multiple brochures, and suggestions on recommended activities. With shops and restaurants centered around town square, multiple bed & breakfast options, and the city beach & lake area, the town seemed like such a great place for a weekend getaway!

There’s stuff to do with your family, with your significant other, and with your friends! I could even see it as a good option for those people that just want some down time to themselves. After all, as Maya Angelou once said, “Every person needs to take one day away.  A day in which one consciously separates the past from the future.  Jobs, family, employers, and friends can exist one day without any one of us, and if our egos permit us to confess, they could exist eternally in our absence.  Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for.  Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us.”

Something for Everyone

The city of Granbury prides itself on the fact that there is “Something for Everyone.” Festivals are often popular events and there are also museums, parks, wineries, and more! Check it out for yourself:

Elizabeth and I did as much as we could, considering we just went for the day!

Starting with a delicious lunch at Nutshell Eatery & Bakery (where we both had the chicken fried steak lunch special), we then ventured off to a few boutiques and shops around the square! These stores were so cute and they had every knick knack you could think of. My favorites were all of the signs that had quotes on them!

We also had the chance to check out some museums, stop by D’Vine Wine, and head over to the city beach!

“Granbury and Hood County are rich in frontier folklore and Texas history,” which make the museums a popular attraction. However, there are also walking tours that you can take so you can check out other various historic landmarks. Check out the History of Granbury page to learn more! (Psst, it’s also rumored and believed that Jesse James, the notorious outlaw, is buried there!)

If wine is more suitable to you, then D’Vine Wine is a great spot – You can sample by the glass, by the bottle, or even make your own!

Finally, the city beach located by Lake Granbury, is a great spot to go soak up some sun! It’s located near various lodging options, as well as the Granbury Resort Conference Center. Find out Where to Stay for your trip!

All in all, I would definitely recommend visiting Granbury, Texas if you’re looking for a summer weekend escape! You can even use Hertz NeverLost to guide you to different events, attractions, restaurants, and more, which will make finding your way go much smoother!

Everyone who lives in Granbury, loves it! So, you should visit to see why!

Hopefully in the future, I’ll get a chance to check out the other top destinations! Until then, I’ll remember the great times I had in Granbury!
